Phu Quoc – A Must-Visit Island Escape for Parents

Because even supermoms and super dads deserve to pause, play, and just be.

Let me say it out loud—Phu Quoc is a hidden gem, and if you're a parent who's juggling a million things and dreaming of a break that feels like a reward, this Vietnamese island is your love letter from the universe.

I just returned from a 5-day escape to Phu Quoc, and here’s everything you need to know—how we got there, what we did, where we ate, and why I think every parent should put this on their bucket list.

Getting There: From Delhi to Island Life

We took a VietJet Air flight from Delhi to Ho Chi Minh City. The flight was smooth, but the real rush began post-landing—we had to collect our luggage and dash to the domestic terminal to catch our connecting flight to Phu Quoc. Pro-tip: Allow at least 3 hours between flights. Trust me, with kid and airport queues, you’ll need that buffer!

Our return was via Phu Quoc to Hanoi, and then Hanoi to Delhi—a bit more relaxed, giving us time to reflect on the magic of the past few days.

Why Phu Quoc Works So Well for Parents

As parents, we often crave places that offer both fun for kids and peace for ourselves. Phu Quoc does that effortlessly. It’s got adventure, quiet beaches, world-class entertainment, and heartwarming hospitality. Here's what our 5-day itinerary looked like:

Day 1: Safari Mornings & Gondola Dreams

We started with a bang by heading straight to Vinpearl Safari—Asia’s largest open zoo. From seeing giraffes up close to watching lions from a safari bus, it was a thrill for all of us (and secretly, I was more excited than my child!). It’s a fab way to engage kids with nature and wildlife.

Post-lunch, we headed to VinWonders Grand World for the Gondola Ride, a slice of Venice in Vietnam! It was romantic, peaceful, and so picturesque.

But the real cherry on top? The Hon Thom Cable Car Ride—the world’s longest sea-crossing cable car! Imagine floating over turquoise waters with 360° views—it was surreal. If you’re visiting Phu Quoc, don’t skip this.

Day 2: Theme Parks, Starfish & Local Vibes

We kicked off Day 2 with VinWonders, Vietnam’s biggest theme park. Roller coasters, splash rides, and kid zones—it had something for all age groups. We literally didn’t want to leave.

Later, we made a quick visit to Starfish Beach—a unique beach where you can spot starfish resting in shallow waters. Do wear water shoes—it’s a bit rocky!

A mother and her son experience an enchanting evening at a theme park aglow with lights, where breathtaking illuminations and water features craft a fairytale ambiance.

Evening was reserved for exploring the local Phu Quoc Night Market in Duong Dong. We feasted on Vietnamese pancakes (Banh Xeo), fresh fruit smoothies, and grilled seafood skewers. Highly recommend Ra Khoi Restaurant near the market for authentic local flavors and friendly service.

Day 3: Symphony of the Sea & Sunset Town Magic

This was my personal favorite. We started late, chilled by the pool, and saved our energy for the evening because it was all about Sunset Town.

We caught the stunning "Kiss of the Sea" water show at Sunset Grand Theatre—a breathtaking mix of music, light, water, and storytelling. It's a must-do for families.

The vibe at Sunset Town is European, with pastel buildings, sea-facing cafés, and live music in the air. We dined at IN THE MOOD Bistro—charming interiors, wood-fired pizzas, and a great wine list. The sunset here? Absolutely magical.

Day 4: Island Hopping & Kayaking Adventures

Time for some adrenaline! We booked an island-hopping tour that covered Mong Tay Island, Gam Ghi Island, and more. Snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, kayaking along the mangroves, and beach hopping with fresh coconut water in hand—it was everything a tropical dream is made of.

We stopped at Khem Beach—less crowded, super clean, and perfect for some parent downtime. Lunch was a beachside BBQ as part of the tour—fresh grilled prawns, fish, and some great Vietnamese dips.

Day 5: A Pause at Sao Beach

Our final day was all about Sao Beach, one of the most beautiful white-sand beaches in Phu Quoc. We chose to do absolutely nothing here—just lay back, sip coconut water, build sandcastles, and be in the moment.

We had lunch at Paradiso Beach Club, located right on Sao Beach. With loungers, delicious spring rolls, and tropical smoothies—it’s the perfect beachfront escape.

Restaurant & Local Tips:

  • Ra Khoi (Duong Dong): Best for seafood & Vietnamese dishes

  • IN THE MOOD Bistro (Sunset Town): Italian vibes and ocean views

  • Paradiso Beach Club (Sao Beach): Chill, scenic, and kid-friendly

  • Buddy Ice Cream & Info Café: Great for desserts and travel help

  • Rory’s Beach Bar: Beach bar + music + laid-back vibe = parent paradise

  • Sunset Beach Bar

Phu Quoc wasn’t just a trip—it was a reset. A place where I could laugh louder, breathe deeper, and connect—not just with the island, but with myself and my family. As a parent, we often forget that we deserve joy too. And sometimes, joy looks like a hammock, a mango smoothie, and your child laughing in the waves.

Would I recommend Phu Quoc to other parents? A thousand times yes.
